Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
Boston University Medical Center is a tertiary care center and New England’s largest safety net hospital. We serve a diverse, multicultural population and have approximately 800 midwife-attended births/year. Our midwifery service provides full-scope midwifery care to women in many neighborhood health centers, the hospital OB/GYN clinic, and our Adolescent Center. We provide labor and delivery coverage 24 hrs/day, 7 days a week and work in a collaborative model with highly supportive obstetricians, perinatologists, and family medicine physicians. Midwives are faculty appointed in the Boston University School of Medicine and are expected to teach residents, medical students, and midwifery students on labor and delivery. We staff our OB triage service and provide postpartum rounding coverage 7 days/week. We are a multicultural group of 18 midwives who together speak English, Spanish, Thai, Cape Verdean Creole and Haitian Creole. We are committed to holistic care for women and families and have developed programs and services such as our Birth Sisters Program (a multicultural doula service offering home visiting and labor support) our childbirth education program, aromatherapy, and Centering Pregnancy prenatal care. We welcome another energetic midwife with a passion for birth, a commitment to serving diverse populations and a team-oriented style.
