Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
Birth Care and Family Health Services is a not-for-profit practice in beautiful, rural Lancaster County, PA. Our CNMs provide comprehensive OB/GYN care, attending births at home, at our fully-equipped CABC accredited free-standing birth center, and at a local hospital. We are proud to be serving our local Amish community with culturally sensitive care for over 30 years, which currently accounts for about 60% of our 500-600 births per year. Fully equipped free-standing birth center with 3 birth rooms, CNM call-room, separate office suite
Low-risk births at home or at birth center, ability to attend higher-risk clients, TOLACs, and IP transfers at local hospital.
2 CNMs on call at all times; office hours 4 days/week
Privileges and physician collaboration agreements at Ephrata Community Hospital, with good relationships with other local hospitals/specialists and emergency personnel.
CNMs provide water birth, birth stools, pharmaceutical pain management, lactation support, and childbirth education, postpartum home visits by nursing staff.
30-60 births per month.
Well-care, family planning including contraception and fertility awareness teaching, pre-conception counseling, STI screening, pessaries, etc. offered.
Clinical staff includes 6+ FTE CNMs, RNs/LPNs, MAs
Logistics of position:
Position is PT or FT, per candidate preference. 0.4 FTE (16 hours) of administrative time per week. Remainder of hours would consist of office and call time. Minimum one clinical shift/week (0.6 FTE)
Call may be taken from home if within 30 minutes of birth center
Clinical director works closely with the executive director and director of nursing, provides direct leadership of the CNM staff. Answers to the board of directors.
Proactive and effective staff management: oversee team of 6+ CNMs and director of nursing. Provide constructive feedback. Manage scheduling, vacations and holidays.
Maintain effective work relationship with nursing and administrative staff, consulting physicians, families and the public.
Collaborate with the executive director on daily operations, including budget, finances, payer relations, client relations, housekeeping, maintenance, public relations, etc.
Conduct regular staff meetings and ongoing staff evaluations.
Attend board of director meetings.
Annual review and revision of practice guidelines to ensure evidence-based practice, and compliance with CABC, state, and local regulations.
Oversee processes relating to public relations, records, QA, education of professional students, research and statistics.
At least 5 years experience working as a CNM.
Experience in a managerial role and demonstrated strong leadership skills.
Experience in, and specific interest in the out-of-hospital birth center model.
Ability to collaborate with a team and also practice independently with competence and confidence.
Knowledge and comfort with common herbal/homeopathic/alternative therapies.
Comfort working with EMR and ability to lead staff through transition to EMR
