Staff Midwife Job Description
The Midwife promotes the vision and mission of Babymoon Inn, especially by providing an atmosphere that honors the momentous event of childbirth, the right of the woman to make health care decisions for herself and her baby, and the primacy of her family’s love and support. The Midwife performs full spectrum midwifery, including women’s health and perinatal care in office, freestanding birth center and home visits. The Midwife will precept resident students in midwifery or allied professions in support of growing midwives in the United States and exposure to community birth.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Abide by Babymoon Inn Policies & Procedures and Clinical Practice Guidelines
Proficient at electronic charting and communication systems
Routine participation in quality assurance and improvement processes.
Consistent attendance and participation at staff meetings, and regular participation in electronic systems (ie keep up with tasks and emails).
Work collaboratively with Babymoon Inn employees and the larger health care team. Refers and/or consults with physicians and specialists as needed
Maintain thorough documentation of all care provided
Participates in maintenance of equipment and supplies (ie tracking par level of supplies in family clinic or birth rooms).
Participate with state and national midwifery organizations and activities.
Represent Babymoon Inn in local events or health fairs at least twice a year.
Provides full scope midwifery care in clinic (and at home during initial postpartum period):
New OB (intake) visits
Return OB visits
General lactation support
Well-woman health: including management of common health problems and contraception
Provides full scope midwifery care and clinical skills in Birth Center:
Ancillary work of 1st call responsibilities
Leadership of clinical shift
Phone Triage and counseling
Review of labs and ultrasound results
Post dates and fetal surveillance monitoring
Routine Care: ongoing risk assessment, monitoring of maternal and fetal wellbeing, labor support, conduct delivery, repairs as needed, medication administration as needed, etc.
IP, PP or NB transfers
Full scope Postpartum Care
Routine Newborn Care through 4 weeks of life and/or consultation/collaboration with pediatric providers
Current license to practice as a CNM in the state of Arizona
Maintains licensure and certifications. Currently trained in Neonatal Resuscitation.
Embodies the Midwifery Model of Care and promotion of a safe, satisfying and empowering pregnancy and birth experience.
Capable of training students in the Midwifery Model of Care with patience and consistency.
The stamina and physical ability to be on call for labor and birth support for 24 hour shifts 2-3 times per week, plus 16-20 hours of clinic and administrative time. Bending, kneeling, lifting, pulling and pushing are routine physical demands, and there is potential exposure to hazards such as noise, chemicals and body fluids.
Articulate and capable of representing the birth center and midwifery concepts in private and public settings. Proficient in written English.
Active drivers’ license or demonstrated capability of 24-hour transportation.
Spanish language fluency desired.
