Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
SUMMARY: The Certified Nurse Midwife/Certified Midwife provides prenatal care to patients who include physical assessment, patient education, nursing care and management of problems in accordance with approved nurse midwifery guidelines. Demonstrates clinical expertise to function in an independent role. Excellent interpersonal relationships and communication skills in order to collaborate with patients, families and staff. Ability to be self-directive and demonstrate initiative in addressing responsibilities of position.
Job Duties & Essential Functions:
Full scope midwifery practice in ambulatory care, prenatal, postpartum, family planning and gyn in-hospital intrapartum and postpartum.
Provide clinical service to low risk patients who want midwifery care in a collaborative practice with faculty obstetricians, perinatologists and generalists.
Organize community outreach programs and the development of a patient base. This includes consistent contact with outside organizations on issues that affect midwifery, practice promotion, and marketing.
Participate actively with professional organizations regarding legislation and other activities, using the knowledge that is gained to enhance the Division.
Participate in monitoring the quality of care through chart review and oversight of provider activities and productivity.
Current member of the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM)
Minimum of six months postgraduate full scope midwifery practice
Required Education & Qualifications:
Certification by the American College of Nurse Midwives or American Midwifery Certification Board
Completion of a nurse-midwifery educational program approved by the American College of Nurse Midwives
Master’s Degree in Midwifery or Nursing
Possession of or eligibility for New York State license
Ability to fully utilize electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position
