The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is an individual educated in the two disciplines of nursing and midwifery who is certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board. CNM practice is the independent management of care, focusing on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, family planning and the gynecological needs of well women. This care occurs within the OMP Women’s Health Clinic and Olympic Medical Center. The CNM practices in collaboration with an OB/GYN physician group according to the written “MD and CNM Cooperative Practice Guidelines.” Collaboration is defined as a process by which each health care professional contributes his or her expertise to provide more comprehensive care than one health professional alone can provide.
