Director of Midwifery

NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx handles more than 156,000 outpatient visits, over 50,000 emergency room visits, and more than 7,500 admissions annually within its 232-bed facility. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.
The Director of Midwifery will be responsible for the overall planning, development, and management of the administrative, clinical, educational, research and evaluative functions required for a midwifery practice embedded within a large Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health that serves two separate sites. Staff midwives provide primary healthcare in both inpatient and outpatient settings, within a collaborative model of care to clients across the health spectrum.
Planning, developing, managing and directing all aspects of the Midwifery Practice
Evaluating and responding to reports and assessing the quality of care provided by staff
Hiring, evaluating and terminating staff, including implementing appropriate performance-improvement measures as appropriate
Providing and coordinating educational opportunities for students and/or staff
Participating in lectures and clinical supervision of students and staff
Participating in planning and supervision of childbirth and health education programs
Collaborating with other services and programs, including new program development and maintenance
Providing clinical midwifery care
Representing the Midwifery Practice or Department of OB/GYN and Women’s Health, including involvement in program development and maintenance of new initiatives
Making yourself available 24/7 for consultation regarding midwifery care
Participating in leadership activities within the Department of OB/GYN and Women’s Health
Current NYS license as a Midwife
Board Certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a supervisory/managerial capacity or its equivalent
Maintains AMCB Certification
