Job Summary

To assist with patient care and management under the responsibility and supervision of the surgeon. To perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his/her services. Assists in gathering the data necessary in implementing the diagnosis and, thereby, the therapeutic plan of the surgeon.

Job Duties

• Assesses and establishes a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for their patient population.
• Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate and prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidenced based practice.
• Prescribes, adjusts or discontinues medications or therapies as appropriate.
• Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient's health or well-being.
• Performs procedures within the scope of practice of the nurse practitioner license.
• Must have the ability to see all patients of all ages.
• Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, PCP and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.
• Instills confidence in patient acting as their advocate by providing safe, ethical care and health education to the patient and their family in a language that they can understand.
• Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.

Position Details

Geisinger Medical Center: located in Danville, PA, the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children's Hospital. GMC, a Magnet Hospital, maintains the regions only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics.  GMC offers an array of highly specialized medical and surgical services, including neurosciences, cardiovascular services, transplantation, women's health (in the Women's Pavilion), oncology and orthopaedics.  The Hospital for Advanced Medicine serves as an integrated center for the most critical patients. Outpatient services are available on and off campus.

Master's Degree-Physician Assistant (Required), Master's Degree-Nurse Practitioner (Preferred)
