MCH consists of 10 beds for Labor & Delivery, 11 beds for Postpartum and 4 beds for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit-Level 11. The facility uses upgraded equipment, that provides sophisticated fetal monitoring by experienced and certified nurses delivering best practice nursing care. Maternal Child Health Services Include: Maternal and Fetal Medicine Labor and Delivery Care Maternal Mental Health Care Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - Level II Breastfeeding Support through Breastfeeding Resource Center Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Sierra View Medical Center’s 22-bed Family Birth Center is for labor and delivery which adheres to the standards established by First 5 California, an initiative to promote and improve the health of children in the first five years of life. Notably, the birth center has received the BETA Quest for Zero: Excellence in OB award for over a decade. In partnership with First 5 Tulare County, SVMC is the only South Central Valley hospital to be designated as ‘Baby Friendly’ by implementing the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding interaction and duration. These practices include infants rooming in with parents to maintain 24-hour interaction and encouraging skin-to-skin bonding between babies with both parents during their stay at the hospital. Part of the ‘Baby Friendly’ protocols includes the 'Golden Hour' where mom, baby, and dad or other support person have special undisturbed time to bond with their baby as much as possible during the stay and delay the baby’s first bath for at least 12 hours. Sierra View Medical Center NICU The NICU is strategically located on the same floor as the birthing center for efficient delivery of care. The unit manages and keeps neonates 32 weeks and older that require an intermediate level of care (i.e. respiratory support such as bubble CPAP, Nasal Cannula, Intravenous Fluid administration, Sepsis treatment – antibiotics administration, and management of hyperbilirubinemia). The unit, in partnership with Valley Children’s Hospital (VCH), has a 24-hour on-call Pediatric Hospitalist and uses telemedicine for consultation as needed.
