Certified Nurse Midwife actively participates in antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum care of expectant females.
Care may include independent evaluation and management of both low and higher risk patients. A midwife may perform vaginal deliveries of newborn babies. Midwife may assist physician with complicated, higher-risk deliveries.
A midwife is expected to provide primary gynecologic care to women including gynecologic check-ups, family planning services and evaluation and management of medical conditions. Ability to perform standard office-based procedures is expected.
Other Information Satisfactory completion of all clinical training segments within their midwife training program.
Responsibilities Examination and monitoring of pregnant women during delivery. During labor monitors mother's heart rate. During labor performs periodic physical examinations of patient, including dilation of cervix. Monitors condition of mother and baby throughout the delivery. Orders medications for mother as needed. Maintains contact with supervising obstetrician as appropriate. Maintains a full and accurate medical record of the delivery process. Instructs Labor and Delivery nurses as they assist with the delivery process.
Provides pre-natal outpatient care to pregnant women in the outpatient clinical setting.
Performs periodic physical evaluation and management services of pregnant patients in the office.
This is to include a gynecological exam, as per practice protocol. Instruct patients on the appropriate diet and prenatal health practices during the pre-natal period. Maintain current and accurate medical records within the practice electronic medical record system.
As needed, periodically order tests to monitor patient's condition. Tests may also be ordered to assist in treatment of patient if a medical concern occurs.
Midwife will review test results and take appropriate actions depending on the test results.
Takes appropriate action when medical complications arise, including promptly alerting the patient's obstetrician to the issue.

Two - Three years experience as a midwife performing intrapartum care and outpatient gynecologic services. At least one year of experience as a nurse in Labor and Delivery.
Essential Credentials: • RN - Registered Nurse • BLS - Basic Life Saving certification • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program/ Certificate Essential Competencies and skills: • Clear Communication Skills Both Written And Verbal • Knowledge Of Basic Computer Programs • Able To Keep Confidential Information Regarding Patients, Team Members • Able To Withstand Crisis Situations • Has Skills To Provides Customer Service To Patients, Team Members And Visitors Essential Education: • RN Diploma/RN Graduate Program.
Proven expertise in providing successful intrapartum care in at least 20 deliveries in the previous 12-month period.
