General Summary
Assists in providing patient care and treatment in accordance with the Division of Nursing Standards. Maintains in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment, assists the patient care team to provide various patient care activities and maintains customer service focus essential for smooth operation. Performs various patient care activities and related non-professional services required to maintain the therapeutic milieu. Provides care to a general adult population of acutely ill psychiatric patients. The age of population served is neonate to geriatric or as defined in unit-specific structural standards in the assigned area.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- As part of the care team, meets with RN to receive report and patient priorities for the shift. The PCT will coordinate with RN throughout shift.
- Accurately takes, records, and reports vital signs, pain rating, height, weight, pulse oximetry and I&O (including drains).
- Consistently demonstrates psychomotor and critical thinking skills necessary to perform and document specific patient tasks as delegated by the RN, per protocol. These include but are not limited to: Specimen collection (urine, stool, sputum), Bedside glucose monitoring, Application of Telemetry, EKG - adult, Enemas, Post mortem care, D/C Foley catheters and Bladder scan with print-out.
- Provides personal care that may include bathing, oral hygiene, active or passive ROM, turning and positioning, AM & PM care, and feeding of selected patients as assigned.
Promptly reports changes in patient condition to RN. Recognizes and responds appropriately to emergency situations.
Minimize hospital acquired infections by compliance with isolation procedures, restocking of isolation supplies, performing appropriate hand hygiene, maintaining cleanliness of clinical equipment as required by SOP.
Reports equipment and environmental repair needs to the Charge RN, CNM, and Help desk.
Enhances patient and family experience by: courteous and compassionate interactions with patient and families; compliance with professional dress code per policy; maintaining a clean and orderly patient room; and, placing personal items within safe and convenient reach of patient.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Must have current knowledge of psychological theory and/or related behavioral health theory. AA or Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or related field, or pursuing a degree in a related healthcare field, or one (1) year experience in the behavioral health field in lieu of degree.
- Certified by the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Nursing Assistant required.
- Current BLS required.
- Previous experience as a CNA in a behavioral health setting preferred.
- May require up to (3) weeks of orientation with a preceptor.
