•Additional Income: Birth Bonus per each birth that the midwives attend, which is a unique feature of our birth center. For the average number of births that the midwives have per year, this $5,000 - 10,000 on top of the base salary annually.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Dar a Luz Birth & Health Center is looking for an experienced, full-time Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) to join our birth center team! The ideal applicant has birth center experience; those with hospital backgrounds with an exceptional desire to nurture and protect physiologic birth will be considered. New graduates with similar experience in school will also be considered. The right CNM for our practice will join eight experienced midwives as an integral part of the woman/pregnant person-centered care we provide. We have a big, bright vision for serving New Mexico families and if you share our passion for family-centered, empowering, individualized care, we are looking for you. Our goal is to expand our clinical team in the next 6-12 months to improve work-life balance, midwife sustainability, and compensation.
Overview
Longest operating free-standing birth center and the only accredited and licensed birth center in New Mexico
A unique midwife-operated 501(c)(3) non-profit grassroots organization where CNMs are independent practitioners in full-scope midwifery for low-risk clients
Work closely with a truly supportive 20+ woman team including 8 other nurse midwives, 7 registered nurses, 3 IBCLCs, 2 educators, 3 administrative staff
Currently accepting 20-25 EDD’s monthly with ~140 births at the center annually
Facilitated 1600 births at the birth center and cared for over 4,000 clients over 13 years
We take all insurance - 36% of current clients are on Medicaid, and we do not cap the number of Medicaid clients we take
Clinic visits are 30-60 minutes providing pregnancy, postpartum, newborn (first 28 days of life), and well-woman/person care - we proudly provide some of the best couplet care in the state!
Collaborative relationships with physicians and hospital-based practices in the area for efficient and safe transfer of care when indicated
Birth assistants are all registered nurses
Proudly serving clients from a range of socioeconomic, racial, age, geographical, religious/philosophical, lifestyle, and family backgrounds
Dar a Luz played a key role in developing birth center regulations now adopted by the Department of Health

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Current applicable state license as a Registered Nurse and Certified Nurse Midwife
American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) certification
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License
Valid CPR and Neo-natal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications

Work involves prolonged periods of standing, walking, and assisting with patient care, including physically supporting clients during labor and birth
This role requires the ability to respond to unpredictable circumstances, work long shifts, including nights and weekends, and manage multiple births or emergencies
Manual dexterity is necessary for operating medical equipment and conducting physical exams
The ability to lift or move equipment and assist in patient mobility is required
This position will involve exposure to varying environmental conditions, including a birth center setting, where quick decision-making and adaptability are crucial
