Opportunity for a Certified Nurse Midwife at the University of Virginia
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Virginia, located in beautiful Charlottesville, VA, seeks a Certified Nurse Midwife for a full-time appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. We are looking for a flexible, energetic, highly motivated professional to help us grow our midwifery service.
Principal responsibilities include full-scope obstetrical and well gynecological healthcare in a midwifery clinical practice that provides 24/7 labor and delivery coverage and in-hospital deliveries. Applicants with previous experience in supporting normal physiological childbirth in an academic medical center are especially encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work comfortably and confidently in a fast-paced academic environment; will support the growth of midwifery practice within the U.Va Health System through excellent communication, teamwork, teaching, and patient care skills; and will support patients and their families, facility personnel and the broader mission of the U.Va Health System in providing coordinated, efficient, and quality care.
Responsibilities include:
Prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care of low-risk pregnant patients
Well gynecologic care including annual exams, contraception, vaginitis, and STI screening and treatment
Triage, assessment, diagnosis and management of low-risk patients on Labor and Delivery
Supervision and education of students (medical, NP, and midwifery) and medical residents (OB, family medicine, and ER) in management of low risk patients
Appropriate consultation with the Chief Resident and/or OB Attending Physician for patients with medical and/or obstetrical problems, and for patients requiring antepartum admission
Coverage of the OB service on Wednesdays from 7 AM – 10 AM (during resident education) in collaboration with the OB Attending Physician
Active engagement in quality and safety initiatives of the OB service, including CEQI, safety and risk reduction initiatives
Participation in departmental activities including grand rounds, morbidity and mortality conferences, faculty meetings, and other activities as appropriate
Participation in professional development activities and maintenance of professional affiliations, including keeping abreast of new literature and attending conferences
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: BSN and Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited midwifery program or equivalent training
Experience: Recent experience managing the healthcare of women in accordance with ACNM standards or ACNM currency of practice certificate (if 5 years or more since original certification), experience providing full scope midwifery care (5+ years preferred)
Licensure: Current Virginia RN license, Current CNM/NP Virginia license, Virginia Authorization to prescribe and DEA#, National Certification from the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) and maintains national certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board (ACMB), Current AHA Health Care Provider BLS certification, Current NCC or PQF EFM certification
